[acidfree:5538 size=200 align=right title=""]Gary Thornton was the winner of the famous Loughrea road race today. He won the 10k in 30:01 from Seamus Power of Kilmurray/Ibrickane in 2nd. Feargal Geraghty was next in for GCH in 11th position with a fine time of 33:50. Scottish international Freya Murray won the women's race in an amazing 32:56. Some other notable GCH performances include Nicola Deacy, who is on a roll of setting PBs in every race, finishing in 43:53. Bernie Kelly also put in a great time of 44:51 as did Paul Fallon with 37:57 and Joe O'Neill with 50:01.

[acidfree:5531 size=230 align=right title=""]The GCH Berlin Marathon 2010 Team of Brian Crowe, Liam Walsh and Sean McGlynn are probably by now resting somewhere in Berlin after a fantastic morning's running. The boys ran three new PBs with 3:28:03, 3:35:07 and 4:04:51 respectively. The race website shows the 5k splits for all three are impressively consistent over the full 26.2 miles, and we've posted them here - just click on the attached image to see all three.
[acidfree:5529 size=200 align=right title=""]Mary Doyle and Bernie Kelly made the trip north to Dromahair last weekend for the annual 4 mile road race. Both girls picked up category prizes for their runs. Full results are attached, courtesy of Trevor McDaid of host club North Leitrim AC.
Castlegar Athletic Club have been in touch to say that they are holding a club reunion on Saturday the 9th October, 2010 in the Clayton Hotel, Galway, to commemorate, 35 years since the club was founded. "We extend a warm welcome to all former athletes of the club, their family and friends to this function." Further details are in the attached flyer.
Gary finished 14th overall in Newcastle/Gateshead this morning. He posted a brilliant time of 1:05:24. Haile won in 59:33 with Martin Fagan first of the Irish in 7th place and 1:03:24. Maria McCambridge, who was 2nd in the Streets after a sprint finish last month, was 9th in 1:14:32. An interesting finisher is Christopher Chataway, former world record holder at 5000m and the man who paced Roger Bannister to his sub 4 minute mile in 1954. He is just shy of 80 and finished the half marathon distance today in 1:51:01.

Training sessions run from 7.00-8.00pm every Sunday. Classes are for adults and cover all swimming abilities, from competitive swimmers to those who can swim a number of lengths of the pool and would like to improve their technique.
Registration for the new term takes place from 6.15pm to 6.45pm on Sunday the 19th September 2010 in Kingfisher Leisure Centre, Tuam. New members are always welcome.

A great afternoon was had by all at the Castledaly 8km road race in aid of Aids Partnership Africa - APA. While there were heavy showers on the way to the race, the sun came out just in time and shone throughout the event.
Helen Corbett continued her winning streak in Manorhamilton yesterday, winnning the Half Marathon in a fine time of 1:32:29. Helen was 11th overall, with clubmates Dermot Lowe and Barry Davey ahead in 1:19:28 and 1:21:31 for 4th and 5th overall.
