Update: The series is now sold out.

Enter at: http://www.runireland.com/forms/galway-5km-series-2010.

Six Galway Athletics Clubs will once again come together to organise a series of low-key, no-frills 5km roads races around the county on six consecutive Tuesday evenings from the 27th of April 2010 through to the 1st of June 2010. The Athenry, Clare River Harriers, Craughwell, Galway City Harriers Loughrea and Tuam clubs have organised a similar series of races for the last four years and the initiative has proven very popular. As usual the races will take place on Tuesday evenings at locations around the county and will culminate in the final race evening in Galway City on Tuesday the 1st June. The now traditional social evening and distribution of series t-shirts and spot prizes will follow the final race.

As in previous years these evenings are specifically designed with the beginner in mind and are perfect for the many members of the Fit4Life groups that have become established all around the county. Runners of all standards are welcome to take part.

The race dates venues and start times will be as follows:

Galway City Harriers - 110 years on the run!

Corrib Princess

Climb aboard the Corrib Princess and join in the Birthday celebrations.
We've chartered the boat from 7-11pm on August 22nd. The cost is a recession friendly €20, to include entertainment and food.
I have had a great response so far but there are still approximately 15 places left. These are open to GCH members and our close running friends. If there are stil some places and your wives/husbands/partners/better lesser halfs/lovers etc can survive 4 hours of incessant banter on all things running related, then they are welcome too.

Fit4Life 2009 - Photos

GCHFit4life2009-10Pat Burkitt has been good enough to forego his warm-up at the last couple of Fit4Life sessions to take some snaps of the group in action. See the results in the following online album:

As Bernie Kelly says, "aren't we a fine looking bunch" - enjoy!

Collection of books on running and running related matters

With the increase in interest in running in the last year as seen in the increased numbers taking part in road races throughout the county, Galway City Library Service has put together a collection of books on running, runners and related matters such as injury prevention, nutrition for athletes, marathon training etc. This collection is located in Ballybane Library on Castlepark Road in Ballybane.

Photos from Craughwell fit4life 5km feb09

On a lovely crisp Feb morning several members of GCH fit4life hit the country roads around Craughwell for the third 5km time trial. As usual organisation was spot on, lots of water and pacers for every level. So a big thanks to Craughwell AC! I must be jinked as this was the second 5km I have missed due to injury so rather than being a lazy sausage with the Sunday paper I said I would head out and take some photos.
So here you go.
