Sorry a few of you have correctly spotted that I missed the start time from on the website for the relays- it is 7.30pm. Please try and get entries into the school or me in advance as it will make processing the results a lot faster but worse case try and get there by 6.30pm on the night to hand up you team. Entry form and all details (apart from start time!) at www.salthillrelays.ie. To recognise the achievements of paralympic athletes we will also be giving you the opportunity to experience life as a unsighted athlete, when after the main relays, we will run a short, race for pairs of runners with one of them blindfolded. Matt
Hi, I used to do some running & have just moved to Galway & see groups of runners leaving Dangan sports grounds, can anyone join in or what is the procedure? Thanks
Would love to have done this but you'd have to go to Castlebar the day before to pick up your number or else stay the night before. I emailed them about this.
I think you will find that the Mayo AC girls are serial winners on the road-racing circuit up and down the country.
They nailed second-place in the ladies team event in our own Streets Of Galway 8K road-race in
2011 and won a glut of medals across all age-categories at the recent national 10K road-racing
championships in the Phoenix Park:
Last Sunday, the 6th May, myself and some friends ran in the Castlebar 10k womens mini marathon for the second year in a row. This was the third year of the race itself which has turned into a huge fund raising event for charities like Cystic Fibrosis, which myself and some of my friends from Corofin AC ran for.The organisers put on a brillant show for the day, bouncy castle for kids waiting for their mums, tents with tea, coffee, drinks and cakes of all sorts,(soft drinks)a big stage set up with bands playing, musicians along the way of the race, plenty of fruit and drinks after, a medal and chipped time and we got to meet and have our photo taken with Enda Kenny who the day before had just completed the 100k pink ribbon cycle for a Cancer charity. Each of us came home with new PBs in the 10k,I got my time down from 54min to 49.06 coming in in 47th place overall,BUT,the thing is, and the real reason I wanted to write a bit about this brillant and little bit hilly race is,it was all Mayo women that came in the top places again. There they were in the red and green all over the shop,ok fare play to them for a good race, well trained for I'm sure, well ran,and well deserved. The winner came in at 39mins+.We must definitely have a few women here in our bril Harriers club that could give some of them a run for their money? It would be lovely to see more of the Galway colours there, they do a great write up after the race in the Western People news paper, with everyones name time and place mentioned,so hopefully we'l get more of a gang from Galway to go next year and hopefully I'l have to look back the way to see the red and green.(no offence to anyone from Mayo)
Yes, that's true. Our team of four ladies aka.... 'Usain's Nemesis'...... is currently engaged in high altitude training..... (on Threadneedle Rd, ahem!)
This promises to be an excellent event and for a great cause so GET YOUR TEAMS TOGETHER and come join the fun!
Jane Walsh seems to the first to get her team organised. You can post entries into the school office or I will collect them from the track this Tuesday or next. I will also have some entry forms with me in case anyone is unable to download one from www.salthillrelays.ie
Hi.
We will be doing a colletion of any unwanted gear before tomorrows 5K in Newcastle, Athenry.
We are mostly in need of clothes, any unwanted tshirts you may have got at races, if you have any decent spare shorts or socks, and with the summer coming we could probably do with some raingear, hats, gloves etc!
The ever improving Gearoid Hynes also ran a fine race to set a new PB of 34.20...taking a massive chunk of his old 35.43 time he set only 4mths beforehand. Am sure it wont be long more till he dips under 34mins-especially on a faster flatter course-Well done!
I was happy with a finish time of 3:31 as the heat seriously affected performance on the day. Overall, hills and heat means a longer wait for a personal best.
I was also very happy to finish in a time of 4.02. I had managed the Connemara Marathon a few weeks ago in a time of 3:25 so I agree the heat in Boston was not in anyone's plan
Well done all, really good race report too loved reading the mile by mile updates, good fun!! :)

Not sure if you mean the Fit4Life groups which are part of Galway City Harriers AC or not. Give Bernie club secretary a ring 087-7504066
