The Resolution Run 5k takes place this coming Sunday - New Year's Day - around the roads of Renmore. It starts at 1:12pm in honour of the new year! Last year saw the first staging of this race which was a great success and raised funds for Renmore gymnastics club as well as Monivea Rugby club. GCH's Philip Harkin and Athenry AC's Tony Killarney are two of the organisers and the details are:

The Resolution Run is a 5K road-race that takes place in Renmore on New Year’s Day 2012 starting at 1:12pm. The race route will be salted in the event of frost. ICY WEATHER WILL NOT STOP US!

Entry fee is €20 with all registered entrants receiving a souvenir technical tee shirt. Registration is available on the day at Renmore AFC (Soccer Club) from 11:30am or in advance at

The race is AAI certified and has been officially measured with a Jones Counter. The course consists of 2 X 2.5k laps around Renmore. The route can be viewed at

The route is suitable for runners and walkers of all abilities.

First prize will be awarded in the following categories: Male and Female Junior, Senior, V40, V50, V60. There will also be a second prize in the male and female Senior categories.

Presentation of prizes will take place at 1:00 pm in the Mervue AFC Soccer Club.

Changing facilities and showers will be available in the Soccer Club and there will be tea, coffee and cookies for everybody after the race. A children’s race (entry €5) of approximately 1K will take place at 12:30. All participants will receive a souvenir medal.

Roads will not be closed for the event, however there will be marshals at all junctions.
