The Galway Cross Country Championships for uneven ages ( U9 to U19) took place in the beautiful surroundings of Kilcornan Estate yesterday.  Conditions were perfect for Cross country running and a lot of preparatory work was undertaken by Brian Bruton and his team on Saturday afternoon.  Once again thank you to Iain Shaw and the results team for all their work  on the day.

Our U9 s girls were first to the line for a race over 800m and they did the club proud with some great performances.  Emily Podmore came home in 44th place with Rachel Francis in 51st and Jessica Burke just behind her in 52nd place.  Harry Kay was our only competitor in the U9 Boys race and he ran a great race coming home in 22nd position.

Molly Smith was impressive in the U11 Girls 1500m race and was first home for the GCH team in 9th position.  She was followed by Hannah Concannon in 34th, Caitlin Podmore  46th, Jane Fahy in 47th and Jodie Quirke 55th position.  In the Boys race Shane Meagher put in a terrific  performance to finish 5th overall with team mates Richard McGrath finishing in 12th and Ronan Duggan in 25th place.

Isabella Burke showed great determination in the Girls 2,500m race to take the County  U13 Girls Title.  She lost one of  her spikes in the mud early on in the race but she continued on and came through as the winner in a great battle with team mates Aoibhe Joyce who took silver and Ava McKeon the bronze medal.  Leana NicDhonncha ran well too to finish in 10th, Rachel Fahy  13th and Jodie Quirke 18th. The girls took Gold in the team competition.  In the U13 boys 2,500m race Sean Duggan ran well to take 10th  place and Sean Dunne 15th place.

Eimear Rowe was the convincing winner of the U15 Girls 3,500m race and was followed home by Joanna Healy in 5th and Nicole Quirke in 8th position.  In the Boys race the O’Culain brothers Brian & Ronan finished in 8th and 9th place respectively.
