Galway City Harriers are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death of Sinéad Brody, a valued member of the club. Sinéad was a club member for several years, and a person and athlete of great talent, dedication and determination. She was a vibrant presence at training sessions and races throughout Galway and further afield. Her death leaves a deep void among her many friends in GCH and wider athletic circles.

Sinead was a superb distance runner and among her outstanding athletic achievements was a team victory with the Galway Senior Cross Country team at the Nationals in 2016. This year, Sinéad won a National 10k team silver in Dublin with GCH and was a multiple road race winner and county and national medalist across distance events, including an incredible win at the Galway 3000m track race and a win at the Kinvara 10k this year.

GCH would like to extend the club's deepest sympathies to Sinéad's family and friends.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

Funeral arrangements for Sinead can be found at:

In Sinéad's memory, GCH athletes competing at this weekend's masters and national leagues are wearing black ribbons. GCH will also provide ribbons at the startline of the Claregalway 10k next weekend for any athlete who would like to wear one.

We would invite all of our club members to support one another through any distress on learning of the sad passing of Sinead. If anybody needs assistance beyond spending time with friends or loved ones some services are linked through the following sites:
