On A Clare Day...
...you can see forever apparently and indeed, despite it being just seven days from the shortest day of the year, it was easy to believe this saying such were the blue skies and bright sunshine that greeted the GCH/Fit4Life troops as we descended on Kilmurry-McMahon earlier today for the local St Mary's Athletic Club annual running of the Bernie Meaney memorial 5K road-race.
Eve Daly has provided many photographs from the day and the event which are linked here: http://www.galwaycityharriers.com/albums/kilmurrymcmahon5k2008 and an article from the Fit4Life group has been committed which we look forward to publishing as well in the fullness of time.
In terms of the race itself, in brief summary, the men's race was won in sub-15 minute time by Ennis Track's Rory Chesser while Mayo AC's Catherine Conway took the honours in the ladies race. A full and final set of results are attached below so feel free to check your own time and confirm whether the rolling hills of north west Clare (and there were quite a few on the race circuit!) were a significant obstacle to improving on your time for 5K from Craughwell a number of weeks back.
As regards GCH participation today, there were category prizes again for Ian Egan and Martin McEvilly in the men's competition, while Louise Arrigan and Bernie Kelly were both on the prize roster in their respective categories in the ladies' competition. The GCH men's team (Ian Egan, Danny Carr, Martin McEvilly and John Flannery scoring) also finished up among the team prizes.
Well done all for travelling, participating in the race and contributing to the overall success of the event. The local club in Kilmurry-McMahon was clearly very grateful for our efforts and we thank them for hosting us so well.
Go dtí an chéad babhta eile - in the meantime, keep an eye out for that race article appearing on our web-site soon!
