"The classes constantly evolve to suit both my clientele and change as new pertinent information becomes available. Lately, I notice a surge of runners joining in. As they feel quite fit with all the running, they tell me they cannot shift the flab off the middle section. All the running does keep the "fat" content down, but toning comes with small sessions of added Core work.

I have incorporated a certain amount of tummy work into my class workouts, I feel there has to be a balance of strength core work and cardiovascular.
Strength core work (done correctly!) helps alleviate and prevent many of the common injuries incurred from the strain of consistent running- ie, joint trouble in the knees- a strong core can "lighten the load" considerably.
I put a lot of emphasis on "core" (tummy work), as this is an area that tends to loosen as we age- but mainly to tone, firm, and showoff all that hard work that running serves the body.

I spend 50% of the time on core work, of which the exercises vary weekly, staying with the progression (lower abdominals up to, mid, and side sections)
My experience with Women and their tummies is good. I work with ladies from just after cesarean sections to just overindulging during the Xmas season.
There are parts of exercises to suit all levels of fitness, and can be adapted accordingly. Advanced athletes usually get stuck in straight away and feel the crunch from the very first one, while beginners slowly work at their own pace.
