FUTURE Streets Of Galway 2009 - Entries Now Closed

GCH Crest (Red)

Entry for the FUTURE Streets of Galway 8k Road Race 2009 has now closed. The race limit of 2500 entrants has been reached, and no further applications for entry can be accepted. You can check the list of entrants, in our 'Streets of Galway' section, to make sure you're in. Please note that if you entered very recently, then it may take a few days to appear on this list.

Full event information for the night itself and details on race pack pick-up will be provided here over the coming days.

Hopefully the preparation is going well for all of our entrants, as the countdown to the 8th of August begins. If the numbers of people out training in the mornings and the evenings around Galway City are anything to go by, then the standard this year will also be the best yet!

The Streets course is a known as a fast course, if the wind on the prom on the way home isn't too strong. The route map is up in our 'Streets of Galway' section, where you can check out the course.

This year's race is on Saturday August 8th 2009 at 7p.m., starting and finishing at Southpark in the Claddagh. There will be plenty of tea and refreshments in the clubhouse at the finish area, where the prizes will also be presented after the race.

Patrick Larkin of Moycullen is one of the very few people to have run all 23 Streets of Galway races so far, every year since it's inception in 1986. He is on for his 24th this year and already has his entry in. So, if you would like to partipate this year, get your entry in soon to be guaranteed a spot and help make it a great Galway event on the 8th of August.

This year's Race Director is Gearoid Quinn, who with his core team of Galway City Harriers volunteers and support from sponsors FUTURE, are busy organising all the aspects of the Streets of Galway 2009, putting in place facilities, plans and actions to make sure this year's event is a success. On the day itself, the entire Galway City Harriers club will be on hand, working with the local services and Gardai to ensure an enjoyable and safe event for everyone. Traditionally, all GCH members who run the race on the day also provide a volunteer for the evening, and this works out well to ensure the successful running of the event and still have the white and red singlets of GCH running around the Streets of Galway.

There is a total prize fund of €5000 spread across different prize categories. Over the years many illustrious names in Irish athletics have graced the Streets of Galway. Junior participants must be aged under 19 on the day of the race with a minimum of age 14. A course record bonus of €500 is guaranteed.
