Juveniles in Connaught cross-country U11-U19
Galway City Harriers had another good day at the Connaught cross-country U11-U19 in Boyle at the weekend. The club captured 2 team titles, 2 individual titles and 5 teams qualified for the All-Irelands in Ballyhaise on Dec 7th. The club had 2 competitors in the under 11 girls race with Sinead Miniham finishing 27th & Catherine Connaire 31st.
The under 11 boys won the team title easily with all 6 of the team finishing in the top 20. John Maher led them home in 2nd place with David Carter close behind in 4th place. Fiachra O’Clochain followed in 6th, Liam Costello 9th, Bronson Kelly 10th & Luke O’Shaughnessy 20th.
Allana Lally continued her domination of the under 13-age group coming home a very impressive winner. Maebh Brannigan again excelled in 7th place, Katie Carter 14th, Roisin Dobey 17th, Sorcha Minihan 28th, Shauna Hynes 29th, Adele Cadogan 34th and Elisabeth Maher 35th. The team finished 3rd with 39 points.
Colm Hughes was just pipped on the line in the under 13 boys race by Conor Gillen from Craughwell. Keegan Kelly ran a mighty race for 15th place, Simon O’Shaughnessy 18th, Calum McClaren 27th & Ronan Esslemont 32nd. The team finished 2nd with 62 points.
Michelle Maher was the clubs first finisher in the under 15 girls race in 4th place., Sarah Madejadere who has joined GCH from Borders Ramblers was 12th, Emma Johnson 20th, Aisling Hynes 21st and Leanne Biggins 33rd. The club finished 4th.
The under 15 boys won the team event with 41 points. David Bohan finished 4th & continued his good form. Shane Fahey was next finisher in 7th, Evan McGiure 9th, & Dean Gavagan 21st.
Eimear Hanahoe was our leading competitor in the under 17 girls race finishing in 9th place with Sarah Johnson 19th.
Gearoin O’Connor was our only competitor in the under 17 boys race finishing 7th.
Nicola O’Ceallaigh continued her road back to the top finishing 2nd to Laura Shaughnessy in the under 19 girls race.
Michael McDonnacha won the under 19 boys race from Ryan Monaghan of North Sligo.
The GCH under 11 boys, under 13 girls and under 13 boys should all be fighting it out for team medals at the All-Ireland. While Allana Lally and Colm Hughes will have a big say in the race for the under 13 girls and boys individual titles.
