Major Success for Junior and U23 Athletes
The Junior & U23 All Ireland track and field Championships were held today in Tullamore. GCH had a very succesful day and it's great to see such talent coming through at this level.
We had a double podium finish in the Junior 400m Hurdles. Evan Maguire ran a incredibly fast time finishing 2nd. Anthony Hebron, Evans training partner showed true grit and determination finishing 3rd. Great to see Anthony coming back after completing his Leaving Cert.
Irene Gorman was in a complete class of her own in the 3000m Steeple Chase easily winning gold in 11:26, a fantastic time over 3000m never mind jumping over fences and into water.
Nicola O Ceallaigh had a great race in the 1500m claiming the bronze medal. One hour after her race was over she togged out for the 5000m and won gold with a pb for good measure!
The Junior mens 4x400m team had a great day winning gold in style! There is no Junior team in the country to even come close to these guys but the U23s were in the same race. Shane Fahy ran a really solid first leg, easily beating the other juniors but the U23 team was a good bit ahead. Evan ran second and had a stormer closing the gap. Anthony Hebron dug in running superb handing baton over to Keith Fallon neck and neck . . . . No one will be suprised to hear that Keith brought them home to gold by a long long margin!
Keith Fallon had a really good race in the Junior 800m. Keith was 4th but that was one of the most competitive 800ms at that age I've ever seen.
Caoimhe Daniels also had great race in the U23 800ms finishing 6th and gaining valuable experience at this level.
