Weekend Round Up, National Half and Connemarathon 2015

Another great weekend of racing with the National 10k taking place at the Phoenix Park on Saturday 11th April and the renowned Connemarathon Ultra, Marathon and Half taking place on Sunday 12th April.

On Saturday in Dublin on what is a notoriously hard course especially in the last 5k of the race. This did not deter our GCH athletes who determinedly took to the course to mark their place in this National event!!

Regina Casey was well up the field with the elites coming home in 9th place in 38:15!! Amazing result and race and well deserved. Aubree Piepmeier ran a fantastic 39:15 and came home in 15th place whilst Siobhan Egan was just behind in 40:36. Combined the ladies brought home SILVERr for GCH in a National event proving that the GCH ladies are right up there with the best of the best!!! Well done ladies.

Brian Bruton this years STREETS OF GALWAY Race Director was the first GCHer home and just back from injury ran 36:58!! Well done Brian!!! Culan O’Meara ran a great race in 38:03and John Devlin was not far behind in 38:35!

Martin Kearney our GCH stalwart and this year’s Streets of Galway Sponsor for the 3rd time ran an outstanding 38:51 taking GOLD home in the O60’s category!!! Amazing stuff!!!

The ever present Martin McEvily also too GOLD in the O65’s in 39:34!! A fantastic run once again from Martin!

Meanwhile the O50’s ladies proved themselves bringing home Silver for the team, with Margaret Sheridan, Barbara Bergin and Majella Ni Chriocain in the scoring three

GCH veterans swept the boards, with Martin Kearney and Martin McEvilly who also took the Over 65 title. These two allied to John Devlin took National Silver in the Over 50 men’s team category.

Well done GCH….we’ve come a long way in National events and this has proven there is far more to come!!

In the West the Connemarathon took place and there was more GCH success with Sinead Brody coming in first at 1:29:34, followed closely in second by Esther O’Flaherty in 1:30:01. Fantastic girls.

Meanwhile 2 hours earlier Sarah Makem had set out on the Full Marathon, just because it was always she wanted to do….well she did do it and in style in 3.32, a smashing Marathon time nevermind on that course!! Hooray!!!

David Glynn also had a massive run in the Half and PB’d in one of the toughest halves in the country in 1:38!!
