[acidfree:3874 size=150 align=right title=""] The National Track & Field League kicks off this weekend, 13th June, at Tullamore and the club is entering a men’s team the year for the first time in sometime. There are two fixtures, each involving a full track and field program (2nd fixture 18th July), from which the teams scoring the highest points total qualify for a final in August. In theory we should be able to field a very competitive team but it will depend on getting our athletes out. A number of athletes have already declared their interest in competing but if anyone fancies running, hurdling, jumping, or throwing please contact Matt Lockett,

mattdlockett AT (note: replace 'AT' with '@'). If we have more than one athlete wanting to compete in a given event this may be possible as guests can be accommodated at the discretion of the match officials.

The league provides an excellent opportunity for our highly successful U17 and U19 athletes to integrate themselves with the senior side of the club. Hopefully we can develop some team spirit that will help both with short term success and to bring more of juveniles through into senior athletics. With this in mind the club has laid on a bus to the first fixture leaving Dangan at 8.45 am. The bus will be free of charge to GCH members so I would encourage athletes to reduce their carbon footprint and utlilize the bus - this will also help with familiarization with teammates and make it easier to facilitate any final changes to the team. We have a 30 seater so should be able to accommodate some supporters and anyone who would be willing to act as one of our two officials. If you want to arrange a pick-up on route to the new road from Dangan contact Matt and we will try to accommodate you.
