Running Shorts

This section contains the responses to our "Running Shorts" pop-quiz.

Introducing GCH "Running Shorts"...

Running ShortsThe idea behind "Running Shorts" is to introduce GCH athletes to the individual running interests, motivations and achievements of their fellow runners in the club (and hopefully raise a laugh or two along the way as well).

Séamus Coyne's Running Shorts

Séamus Coyne - DCM 2009As a new autumn/winter season of Fit4Life, marathon and cross-country running is now upoun us, it is high time that we revived the GCH "running shorts" feature on the club web-site. Given that my own running year is quickly turning out to be an "annus horribilis" (injury-related), I thought I should put my spare non-running time to good effect and contribute my own running shorts to kick off the series this time round.

Remember, if you too would also like to be featured here, please read the following post on how you can contribute. The only stipulation is that you are a registered member of GCH. Don't be shy now...

GCH "Running Shorts" - Take Two

Running Shorts Wordle
Judging by the number of views, the first batch of GCH Running Shorts posts has gone down very well.

However, the mail-box is now running on empty and we are waiting on other club members to contribute. So, if you are interested in compiling your thoughts on all things running-related, please do get in touch. Full instructions are available via the following post.

Paul Fallon's Running Shorts

Paul Fallon
1. How long (in years!) have you been running regularly?
Well, regularly, about 2-3 years. I ran a hell of a lot though when I was a teenager, sometimes hitting 70 miles+/week. As a result of this I spent most of my 20s & 30s recovering!

2. Why did you start running?
Because I couldn’t play soccer (actually I couldn’t run very well either as a kid, which shows how bad I was at soccer). Also, to copy my big brother.

Siobhán Cunningham's Running Shorts

Siobhán Cunningham

To accompany a friend who wanted to start Fit4Life.

1. How long (in years!) have you been running regularly?
I started in 1995 so almost 15 years, but was inactive and got fat from 2001 until last year.

2. Why did you start running?
I always loved sport when I was younger, unfortunately due to an injury to my arm I was unable to compete at contact sports, so I took up running, anyone who runs for a period of time can’t help but fall in love with the sport.

Colm O'Máille - Great Ireland Run - 2009
