[acidfree:3495 title=" " align=right size=130]We've mentioned alternative footwear for running before on this web-site so Gerry Carty has prompted me to add the YakTrax to this ever growing list, in light of the recent arctic conditions in Ireland.

Leading Irish athlete Mark Kenneally (Clonliffe Harriers) who finished a strong 8th in the
pre-Christmas European XC in Santry and who regularly appears in road-races down west, mentioned this shoe in passing in an RTE News item over the weekend as an option for running safely on frozen ground. Interesting, if again, not somewhat bizarre, but it does show the lengths some elite athletes will go to in their quest to stick to a training schedule!

All gimmickry aside :-), if you do venture out running during this cold spell, whether wearing YakTrax(!), spikes or ordinary trainers and irrespective of whether you are running on frozen grass, icy tarmac or some other surface, do tread carefully out there!
