Streets of Galway
This years Streets of Galway Race will take place on Saturday August 10th at 7.00pm.
More details to follow.
Back in 2010, to mark the 25th anniversary road-race, regular streets competitor Gerard Conway was good enough to supply a full-blown statistical analysis of that year's race using TIBCO Spotfire data-analysis software.
He has produced something similiar again for this year's race creating the following data-analysis library based on recorded finish-times for SOG 2012. As per: SOG - 2012
Once again, the streets of Galway came very much alive last Saturday evening with the sights and sounds of 2000+ runners, joggers and walkers assembling to take part in the city’s largest annual road-race. This year’s race was the 27th annual edition of the ever popular event, which is hosted by city-based Galway City Harriers Athletics Club in association with title sponsors, Corrib Oil.
Many thanks to official streets photographer John O'Connor for facilitating the use of one of the photographs from his Flickr photostream at: SOG-2012 in the insert.
We in Galway City Harriers AC would like to thank those of you who have entered the 2012 Streets of Galway 8K road-race sponsored by local company, Corrib Oil.
As per previous years, the race will start at 7pm sharp on the evening of Saturday 11th August, beginning at race-headquarters (Claddagh, Southpark, Galway) – see the following course map for full route details: SOG-2012
If you are not running in the Corrib Oil Streets of Galway this year and would still like to be part of this great event we could still do with your help. Marshalls are required from 5.30pm until 9pm on race-night.
Please send an e-mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help out – no experience is necessary!
Thanks to all who have registered for the 8K on Saturday. Entry limit has been reached and entries are now closed. Numbers, race chips and t-shirts can be collected from the Claddagh Hall on Friday 10th between 3 and 7 and on Saturday 11th between 10 and 5. 8K starts at 7. Best of luck to all athletes.
With less than 2 weeks until race-night and only a couple of days before race-registration closes, to whet the appetite further we are re-publishing here an article that was first posted to the GCH web-site in August 2010 to mark the 25th running of the famous "streets". This article has been updated in part to account for events since 2010.
In order to give an idea of the scale of the volunteering effort required to stage the Corrib Oil Streets of Galway 8K road-race, all junctions along the race-route that require marshalling (numbering 39 at a very conservative estimate) can be viewed at the link provided here (or click on the embedded image to enlarge).
